KIRKLEES YEAR 7 ATHLETICS FINAL
Despite heavy rain, the Kirklees Year 7 Athletics finals were held in high spirits at Leeds Road recently.
The discus, shot put and high jump were moved indoors into the Sportsbarn to escape the unseasonal weather, with the Long jump and Track events remaining outdoors.
13 Schools from across Kirklees took part in the finals, which were closely contested and featured numerous outstanding performances which impressed Kirklees Council's Sports Development Officer and Athletics coach Andy Cook.
Scores included both the girls and boys performances, and at the end of the event it was Kirkburton who came out on top with 303 points.
The battle for 2nd, 3rd and 4th was not resolved until the results of the final event, the Mixed 4 x 100m, were known. Eventually it was Holmfirth who claimed second place with 262 points, just ahead of Scissett Middle School who had 259 points, and Salendine Nook who finished 4th on 249 points.
Great credit goes out to all the children who took part in the wet conditions, and to the many helpers who assited with the event.
